Childcare Facilities in India
In the past, taking care of the child was mostly confined to the mother, family/extended family. As times changed and women started exploring opportunities to work, and then arose the question of “who would take care of my child when I am at work”. More than 30% of the women quit their jobs after childbirth mostly because they are insecure about the safety of the child in the hands of an outsider. The early years of childhood is very crucial in terms of mental, cognitive, physical and social development. So opting to send their child to a childcare facility is the only choice left. Here are the types of childcare facilities available in India
The most common type of childcare facility available in the urban part of India is the conventional daycare facility. These usually operate in different places as franchises with a single management and follow standard rules and regulations. Typically the teachers/supervisors here take care of the children with the help of nannies. The setup usually has a large number of children and provides a secure and educational environment for the children. Some prominent daycare facilities include Euro Kids, TimesKids.
Home based crèche/daycare
The caretaker usually one or two people offer to take care of children in a more homely environment. The home-based daycare wouldn’t have any fixed set of regulations and would be the place with more flexibility. This type would usually have a place for limited number of children.
Daycare at workplace
Some companies offer the option of providing day care facilities at the workplace. The facility is particularly useful for working mothers who would want to have their babies around in the same premises. Daycare at workplace is not so common in India, but some organizations now prefer to set up this facility.
Sending a child to a daycare may not seem affordable to all. The government introduced schemes like Integrated Child Development Services to help the people below the poverty to tackle health and malnutrition issues for children below 6 years. The program also includes non-formal preschool education to the children.
The child attending the daycare tends to develop cognitive skills and social skills at a tender age. But as per research, daycare going children tend to be more aggressive than the ones who don’t go to the daycare. Since the present day children are advanced in their thoughts and activities, it is better to give a streamlined environment to develop their skills and develop both mentally and socially. A childcare facility is the ideal option to achieve this.
